It’s been a while, and much has happened in the two years that I've neglected The MindFrame Minute. In short, two unexpected challenges took up all available real estate in my brain, causing me to shuffle priorities and funnel my energy differently.
First, my private practice took off much faster than I could have anticipated, which was mostly thrilling and occasionally terrifying. Secondly, my daughter was struck with a debilitating chronic illness impacting her connective tissue and nervous system, which changed the makeup of my days and the trajectory of our lives.
In rebuilding the plane in the air, there was no energy left to analyze our methods or document the blueprint.
My daughter is still sick and learning to function differently, which is an ongoing adjustment for all of us. We find ourselves in the liminal space between what her life was and what it can be, balancing both her limitations and the fierce desire to express her full potential despite them.
Recently, I’ve begun to sense a shift in the quality of my thoughts that brings me back to the page. Juggling fireballs of anxiety and grief while barreling through the obstacle course we call the American health system did not leave much space for contemplation. But this new liminal space does. In fact, it demands it. How else do we make sense of things?
I’ve missed the personal connection this newsletter brings and the creative exercise of collecting ideas and distilling them into something useful. This renewed call to write also comes with a more precise focus.
Over twelve years ago, I built my first workshop on prioritizing time and energy for leaders at Ochsner Health. Now, every day, I work with clients to hone their ability to meet life’s demands and serve their unique purpose. And personally, the last two years have been a master class for me in practicing what I preach.
My thesis is this: it is both a fool’s errand and entirely essential to be intentional with our time, especially when the stakes are high.
My new newsletter, All In Good Time, will explore the tension between thoughtfully using our time and letting go of our need to control it. In it, I will share insights gleaned from experts, colleagues, and clients about how to invest your energy in what counts the most: connection, creativity, and fulfillment of purpose. And I'll give you practical tips and tools to apply that wisdom.
Reading each newsletter won’t take more than a few minutes, but I hope it provides you with a fraction of the inspiration that writing it brings me. You can sign up here.
Wishing you a joyful, spacious Thanksgiving break!
